Recently, Jose María Arroyo López officially presented the AirST-Frame project in a day where different research projects were presented to students. AirST-FRAME (Grant PID2023-150782OB-C21 funded by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and FEDER, UE) is a collaborative initiative between Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, funded by Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades.

The primary goal of this innovative project is to optimize the management of European airspace through the development of the CAEHO (Clusterized Aircraft Early Handover) mechanism. CAEHO uses artificial intelligence to anticipate and dynamically balance air traffic controllers’ workloads across adjacent control sectors.

But what exactly is “Early Handover”?
Imagine being able to transfer groups of aircraft from one airspace sector to the next earlier than usual—before congestion occurs. That’s exactly what we’re aiming to do. This proactive approach helps us avoid bottlenecks, balance controller workload dynamically, and enhance the overall efficiency and safety of flights.

This interdisciplinary collaboration promises to unlock new possibilities in air traffic management, contributing substantially to the advancement of aviation efficiency and safety.
The organization thanks everyone involved and looks forward to the achievements this initiative will bring.
