{"id":266,"date":"2013-11-08T01:33:18","date_gmt":"2013-11-08T01:33:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/arnau\/medica-2\/"},"modified":"2024-08-12T12:33:45","modified_gmt":"2024-08-12T12:33:45","slug":"medica-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/arnau\/en\/medica-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Medical Works"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In addition to his <a href=\"traduccions\">translations<\/a>, Arnau also cultivated the vast majority of the medical literature genres, both <a href=\"teorica\">theoretical<\/a> and <a href=\"practica\">practical<\/a>: <a href=\"comentaris\">commentaries<\/a> o the authorities, theoretical treatises, <a href=\"aforismes\">aphorisms<\/a>, <em>summa<\/em> or compendia \u2013 both theoretical (<em>speculum<\/em>) and practical (<em>practica<\/em>)\u2013, the <em>consilium<\/em> or specific treatment for a given patient, monographs specialising in an illness, health regimens and perhaps the <a href=\"dubtosa\">antidotaries<\/a>. Based on internal or external references, along with several explicit dates, there have been attempts to devise an approximate timeline of Arnau\u2019s medical words, but this is more difficult than establishing the dates of the religious works given that most of them do not state the year in which they were written. Internal references also shed light on the title of two lost works: <em>Epistola de elementis<\/em> and <em>De integritate medicine<\/em>, in addition to several <a href=\"comentaris\">commentaries<\/a>.&nbsp; On the other hand, Arnau\u2019s widespread fame as a physician led many anonymous works or works by other less famous authors to be attributed to him for centuries, not only on medicine but also on other areas of knowledge, such as oneiromancy, agronomy and <a href=\"alquimia\">alchemy<\/a>.
