English<\/strong><\/p>\n

With climate change, scarcity of arable land and a range of negative environmental impacts from extensive agriculture there is a need to develop solutions to grow food in cities and reduce the environmental impact of agriculture. Through a partnership with Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona, Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Campos Estela have developed a vertical farming school pilot project. This project will grow lettuce and microgreens vertically in the school, where they will be consumed onsite in Campos Estela\u2019s canteen.\u00a0 Last week, children at Escola Mare de D\u00e9u de la Salut planted the first lettuces.\u00a0 This project applies current research from the Institut de Ci\u00e8ncia i Tecnologia Ambientals (ICTA), using the latest techniques, reusing waste resources and reducing water and fertiliser use. For example, the project uses waste resources for the lettuce substrate by using a mixture of compost, cork waste and Struvite. This project also offers a great opportunity for children, teachers and parents to learn about growing vegetables and where their food comes from. The project includes interactive educational sessions for children to understand the carbon footprint of food.<\/p>\n

A causa del canvi clim\u00e0tic, la manca de terres cultivables i una s\u00e8rie d’impactes ambientals negatius derivats de l’agricultura extensiva, \u00e9s necessari desenvolupar solucions per cultivar aliments a les ciutats i reduir l’impacte ambiental de l’agricultura. Mitjan\u00e7ant una col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 amb Campos Estela, la Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona i la Universitat Pompeu Fabra, han desenvolupat un projecte pilot d\u2019agricultura vertical que es presentar\u00e0 a l\u2019Escola Mare de D\u00e9u de la Salut. Aquest projecte cultivar\u00e0 de manera vertical enciams i microbrots (microgreens) a l\u2019escola, on es consumiran in situ al menjador de Campos Estela. Aquest projecte aplica recerca de l’Institut de Ci\u00e8ncia i Tecnologia Ambientals (ICTA) utilitzant les t\u00e8cniques m\u00e9s recents, reutilitzant els recursos residuals i reduint l’\u00fas d’aigua i fertilitzants. Per exemple, el projecte reutilitza residus per al terra de cultiu dels enciams, amb una barreja de compost, suro residual i Struvite. Aquest projecte tamb\u00e9 ofereix una gran oportunitat per a nens, professors i pares per aprendre sobre el conreu d\u2019hortalisses i d\u2019on prov\u00e9 el seu menjar. El projecte inclou sessions interactives educacionals pels estudiants per entendre l’impacte ambiental del menjar.<\/p>\n
