The proposed framework was applied to a typical housing estate in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona made up of 201 buildings and 13,466 inhabitants and characterized by a high share of low-income families. We assess several future scenarios of joint electricity production (photovoltaic panels), vegetable production (through open-air farming and greenhouses), green roof implementation and rainwater harvesting and rank them according to non-participatory and participatory approaches. In general, there was a tendency for residents to choose strategies providing energy and water rather than the food production potential of rooftops. However, the environmental assessment indicated that the least impacting alternatives from a life cycle approach were those promoting vegetable production, meeting 42 to 56% of the residents&#8217; fresh produce demand and reducing environmental impacts by 24 to 37 kg CO<sub>2<\/sub>eq m<sup>\u22122<\/sup>\u00a0of rooftop\/year. Hence, we found that residents were mainly concerned with energy expenses and not so much with food insecurity, social cohesion or the impacts of long-distance supply chains. Our assessment supports urban sustainability and helps identify and breach the gap between scientific and user preferences in urban environmental proposals by informing and educating residents through a participatory integrated assessment.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Catal\u00e0:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Amb l&#8217;objectiu general de dissenyar estrat\u00e8gies d&#8217;implementaci\u00f3 de sistemes de producci\u00f3 d&#8217;aigua-energia-alimentaci\u00f3 en cobertes urbanes, hem proposat un proc\u00e9s integrat que inclogui processos participatius i una avaluaci\u00f3 multidimensional de sostenibilitat amb indicadors ambientals, socials i econ\u00f2mics. El marc proposat s&#8217;ha aplicat a un complex d&#8217;habitacles de l&#8217;\u00c0rea Metropolitana de Barcelona format per 201 edificis i 13.466 habitants, caracteritzat per una elevada proporci\u00f3 de fam\u00edlies amb ingressos baixos. Hem avaluat diversos escenaris futurs de producci\u00f3 conjunta d&#8217;electricitat (plaques fotovoltaiques), producci\u00f3 vegetal (a trav\u00e9s de l&#8217;agricultura a l&#8217;aire lliure i hivernacles), implementaci\u00f3 de cobertes verdes i recol\u00b7lecci\u00f3 d&#8217;aig\u00fces pluvials, per finalment classificar-les segons enfocaments no participatius i participatius. En general, els resultats mostren una tend\u00e8ncia dels residents a triar estrat\u00e8gies que proporcionin energia i aigua en lloc del potencial de producci\u00f3 d&#8217;aliments de les teulades. No obstant aix\u00f2, l&#8217;avaluaci\u00f3 ambiental va indicar que les alternatives menys impactants des d&#8217;un enfocament del cicle de vida van ser les que promouen la producci\u00f3 vegetal, que van satisfer entre el 42 i el 56% de la demanda de productes frescos dels residents i van reduir els impactes ambientals entre 24 i 37\u00a0 kg de CO2eq m<sup>-2<\/sup>\u00a0 de terrat\/any. Per tant, hem trobat que els residents estan preocupats principalment per les despeses energ\u00e8tiques i no tant per la inseguretat aliment\u00e0ria, la cohesi\u00f3 social o els impactes de les cadenes de subministrament de llarga dist\u00e0ncia.
