The UK hosted the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October – 13 November 2021. Dr. Gara Villalba participated at COP26 through the session “How we can make cities both healthier and carbon neutral”. This session talked about the current problems, discussed solutions and demonstrated how climate action, urban and transport planning and health go hand in hand to create carbon neutral, healthy and liveable cities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Gara Villalba talked about the need to reintroduce nature and greener cities for many reasons. She highlighted the ones that she\u2019s involved to. First, to gain food sobiranity by promoting urban and a periurban agriculture. “The lost of urban agriculture is a global trend, actually. In a few years, here in BCN, we have gone to being able to supply 20% of the fresh products that we need to only 2-3%”. From this, we can have more circular use of the resources in our city. We can recover nutrients like phosphites and nitrogen from solid waste and waste water in order to have a more circular use of the resources if we promote the food production in the urban area.<\/p>\n

Villalba answered John Wright’s questions such as the ways to produce food in a metropolitan area like Barcelona. “The reality is that it depends on the geography and the climate of the city, but we are finding many creative ways to increment the food production. Multiples methods like periurban agriculture, hydroponics on greenroofs or urban agriculture on green roofs are some of them”, answered Gara Villalba.<\/p>\n

El Regne Unit va acollir la 26a Confer\u00e8ncia de les Nacions Unides sobre el Canvi Clim\u00e0tic (COP26) a Glasgow del 31 d’octubre al 13 de novembre de 2021. Gara Villalba va participar a la COP26 a trav\u00e9s de la sessi\u00f3 “Com podem fer que les ciutats siguin m\u00e9s saludables i neutres en carboni”. En aquesta sessi\u00f3 es va parlar dels problemes actuals, es van debatre solucions i es va demostrar com l’acci\u00f3 clim\u00e0tica, la planificaci\u00f3 urbana i del transport i la salut van de la m\u00e0 per crear ciutats neutres en carboni, saludables i habitables.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gara Villalba va parlar de la necessitat de reintroduir la natura i les ciutats m\u00e9s verdes per moltes raons. Va destacar les que hi est\u00e0 implicada: En primer lloc, guanyar sobirania aliment\u00e0ria promovent l’agricultura urbana i periurbana. “La p\u00e8rdua de l’agricultura urbana \u00e9s una tend\u00e8ncia global, de fet. En pocs anys, aqu\u00ed a BCN, hem passat de poder subministrar el 20% dels productes frescos que necessitem a generar-ne nom\u00e9s un 2-3%”. Si es treball\u00e9s en aquesta part, es podria tenir un \u00fas m\u00e9s circular dels recursos de la nostra ciutat. Podem recuperar nutrients com fosfits i nitrogen de residus s\u00f2lids i aig\u00fces residuals per tal de tenir un \u00fas m\u00e9s circular dels recursos si promovem la producci\u00f3 d’aliments a l’\u00e0rea urbana.<\/p>\n

Villalba va respondre a les preguntes de John Wright, com ara les maneres de produir aliments en una \u00e0rea metropolitana com Barcelona. “La realitat \u00e9s que dep\u00e8n de la geografia i el clima de la ciutat, per\u00f2 estem trobant moltes maneres creatives d’augmentar la producci\u00f3 d’aliments. M\u00faltiples m\u00e8todes com l’agricultura periurbana, els conreus hidrop\u00f2nics o l’agricultura urbana en cobertes verdes s\u00f3n alguns d’ells”, va respondre Gara Villalba.<\/p>\n
