{"id":2040,"date":"2023-03-07T00:35:40","date_gmt":"2023-03-06T22:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/urbag.eu\/?p=2040"},"modified":"2023-03-07T00:35:40","modified_gmt":"2023-03-06T22:35:40","slug":"agricultural-perspectives-in-the-amb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/atmosphere\/2023\/03\/07\/agricultural-perspectives-in-the-amb\/","title":{"rendered":"Agricultural perspectives in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona: results from co-creating desired scenarios and the pathways to achieve them"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>English<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The agricultural land of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona has been reduced from 20% to 8-9% over the past decades, despite urban gardening being supported by municipal actions. Urban agriculture constitutes a nature-based solution to several societal challenges, not least in the context of global climate change, related heat events, and enhanced food security. \u00a0In order to better understand the limitations and obstacles that urban agriculture has been facing, and the way to move forward to successfully alter the decline of agricultural lands, a co-creation workshop was organized by ICTA-UAB for its discussion between a variety of stakeholders related to the field (public, academic, private).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Among the results obtained, it can be highlighted that:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The three more relevant criteria that should be achieved by future urban agriculture are: self-sufficiency of food and provision of resources, provision of biodiversity support, and opportunities for social cohesion and placemaking.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Obstacles to urban agriculture were described in four categories: sociopolitical (e.g., globalization, lack of knowledge of agricultural benefits and lack of agricultural labor), normative (e.g., lack of knowledge of local geography and territoriality and outdated legal framework that does not prioritize agricultural benefits), economic (e.g., economic uncertainty of the agricultural activity, high level of competition with agricultural products from other localities) and infrastructure\/technology (e.g., little land available for farming, few public services for farmers and outdated technologies)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Similarly, strategies to overcome obstacles included sociopolitical (e.g., environmental education as a promoter of urban agriculture, active revaluation of agricultural spaces), regulatory (e.g., Inter-institutional coordination and promotion of agricultural activity through a new legal framework), economic (e.g., government aid, diversification of agricultural activities) and infrastructure\/technology (e.g., circularity of resources and Improvement of facilities in the rural environments).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The workshop was organized by URBAG researchers with the assistance of ICTA. L&#8217;agricultura urbana constitueix una soluci\u00f3 basada en la naturalesa per a diversos reptes socials, sobretot en el context del canvi clim\u00e0tic global, els episodis de calor i la millora de la seguretat aliment\u00e0ria. Per tal de comprendre millor les limitacions i els obstacles que l&#8217;agricultura urbana ha estat afrontant, i la manera d&#8217;actuar per aturar el declivi de les terres agr\u00edcoles, l&#8217;ICTA-UAB va organitzar un taller de cocreaci\u00f3 per a la discussi\u00f3 pels interessats en la materia provinents dels camps p\u00fablic, acad\u00e8mic i privat.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"es-VE\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"es-VE\">Entre els resultats obtinguts, es pot destacar que:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Els tres criteris m\u00e9s rellevants que hauria d&#8217;assolir l&#8217;agricultura urbana s\u00f3n: autosufici\u00e8ncia aliment\u00e0ria i provisi\u00f3 de recursos, provisi\u00f3 de suport a la biodiversitat, i oportunitats per a la cohesi\u00f3 social i la creaci\u00f3 de llocs.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Els obstacles de l&#8217;agricultura urbana es van descriure en quatre categories: sociopol\u00edtica (per exemple, globalitzaci\u00f3, manca de coneixement de beneficis agr\u00edcoles i manca de treball agr\u00edcola), normativa (per exemple, manca de coneixement de geografia i territorialitat i marc legal obsolet que no prioritza els beneficis agr\u00edcoles), econ\u00f2mic (per exemple, incertesa econ\u00f2mica de l&#8217;activitat agr\u00edcola, alt nivell de compet\u00e8ncia amb productes agr\u00edcoles d&#8217;altres localitats) i infraestructura\/tecnologia (per exemple, la poca terra disponible per a l&#8217;agricultura, pocs serveis p\u00fablics per als agricultors i tecnologies obsoletes)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">De la mateixa manera, les estrat\u00e8gies per superar els obstacles inclouen la sociopol\u00edtica (per exemple, l&#8217;educaci\u00f3 ambiental com a promotora de l&#8217;agricultura urbana, la revaloraci\u00f3 activa dels espais agr\u00edcoles), la regulaci\u00f3 (per exemple, la coordinaci\u00f3 interinstitucional i la promoci\u00f3 de l&#8217;activitat agr\u00edcola a trav\u00e9s d&#8217;un nou marc legal), l&#8217;econ\u00f2mica (per exemple, l&#8217;ajuda governamental i la diversificaci\u00f3 de les activitats agr\u00edcoles) i la infraestructura\/tecnologia (per exemple, la circularitat dels recursos i la millora de les instal\u00b7lacions en els entorns rurals).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"es-VE\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">El taller va ser organitzat per investigadors d&#8217;URBAG amb l&#8217;assist\u00e8ncia de l&#8217;ICTA.
