We have launched a new ATRAPA survey, reaching 2,000 residents across Barcelona and its metropolitan area. This comprehensive questionnaire aims to uncover detailed insights into public perceptions and responses regarding key sustainable urban transformation initiatives, including Superblocks, bike lanes, pedestrianizations, and protected school environments.
With the data collection now complete -featuring 1,500 responses from Barcelona and 500 from surrounding metropolitan municipalities- our research team will dedicate the upcoming months to in-depth analysis. We will be examining how multiple dimensions can have an impact over opinions and willingness to support specific urban interventions. Among the different topics analyzed there’s trust in institutions, perceptions of neighborhood changes including potential displacement and local improvements, personal values aligning with environmental and prosocial concerns, specific travel habits and willingness to adopt sustainable mobility practices, and climate change perceptions.

This extensive and detailed dataset will enable ATRAPA to uncover sociodemographic profiles, helping us understand who embraces sustainable urban changes and who tends to resist them. Looking ahead, we plan to extend this and related surveys to other ATRAPA project cities, broadening our understanding of public attitudes toward urban sustainability across Europe.
