Marcelo Cabarcas

Marcelo José Cabarcas Ortega is a Postdoctoral Researcher affiliated with the BADEMS Project at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).  He completed his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh in 2024. His research focuses on the cultural and literary histories of the African and Black presence in the Hispanic world, with particular attention to the intersections of race, memory, and knowledge production.

He is the author of Cartografía afro (2026), a study that examines the archive as a site of inscription, erasure, and reconstruction of cultural memory, analyzing how diasporic presences are recorded, mediated, and reconfigured within historical and epistemic frameworks.
