His doctoral research examined the role of the 7th Duke of Medina Sidonia in the defence of the Strait of Gibraltar (1578-1603), combining the study of intercultural diplomacy with the Maghrebi sultanates and the logistics of naval warfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His main lines of research address intercultural diplomacy in the Mediterranean, the role of religious minorities (Moriscos and Jews) in frontier societies, and the dynamics of slavery and captivity in the western Mediterranean.
