{"id":373,"date":"2025-01-26T20:43:43","date_gmt":"2025-01-26T18:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/badems\/?p=373"},"modified":"2026-06-15T21:12:51","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T19:12:51","slug":"call-for-papers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/badems\/2025\/01\/26\/call-for-papers\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Papers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We are pleased to announce the&nbsp;<strong>Call for Papers<\/strong>&nbsp;for the upcoming international and interdisciplinary conference:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;The Cultural Agency and Limits of Minority Groups in Early Modern Iberia: A Comparative Approach&#8221;<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udcc5&nbsp;<strong>25-26 June 2025<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udccd&nbsp;<strong>Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organized by the projects <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/adhuc\/en\/research-projects\/making-blackness-early-modern-spain-process-cultural-and-social-negotiation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Making of Blackness in Early Modern Spain<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/badems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BADEMS<\/a><\/strong>, this two-day event will bring together scholars researching minority groups who resided in early modern Iberia and its colonial territories. The focus will be on the\u00a0<strong>cultural practices and productions<\/strong>\u00a0of these communities, fostering dialogue on\u00a0<strong>agency, identity, and early formations of racial thinking.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We invite proposals from scholars across disciplines\u2014including history, literature, art, music, anthropology, and critical race studies\u2014on topics such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Case studies of individual artists, musicians, and writers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cultural productions and performativities in diasporic communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ephemeral cultural expressions such as festivities and oral traditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Methodological challenges in archival research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Submission details:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Abstracts: 250-300 words + short bio (150 words).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accepted languages: English, Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese, and French.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submission deadline:\u00a0<strong>15 March 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notification of acceptance:\u00a0<strong>20 April 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit via this link:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/pfiyoM2Wg7ZdXZn39\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/forms.gle\/pfiyoM2Wg7ZdXZn39<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For inquiries, contact:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:makingofblackness@gmail.com\">makingofblackness@gmail.com<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Selected conference papers will be considered for inclusion in an edited volume to be published by Routledge in the&nbsp;<em>Junctures: New Approaches in Cultural Studies<\/em>&nbsp;series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Participation is free<\/strong>, but participants are responsible for their own expenses.
