Brief summary of research interests:

She graduated in English Philology from the University of Granada (1988) and obtained a PhD at the same university in 1998 with a thesis dissertation dealing with Chinua Achebe’s narrative production. After teaching at the Secondary School level, she got a position as an Associate Lecturer in 1991. In 2000, she became an Associate Professor at the Department of English Philology at the University of Jaén.

She is a specialist in English-speaking de/postcolonial literature, with particular attention to African literature. Within this field of research, she has published several studies on authors like Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Ben Okri, Ngugi Wa Thiong’o, among others. In 2014, she was invited to be a plenary speaker at Chinua Achebe’s tribute events at Brown University (Providence, USA), where the Nigerian novelist had been a professor.

She has held various positions in university management related to community service. She was Secretary of the Department of English Philology (2001-2008) and Head of the Department of English Philology between 2008 and 2016.
