On 12 June 2025, we hosted \u201cSinging Survival: Memory, Theatre and the Afterlives of Violence\u201d as part of the\u00a0Words Beyond War<\/a><\/em>\u00a0initiative at the Facultat de Filosofia i Lletres (UAB). The event, framed within the\u00a0Projectes d\u2019Educaci\u00f3 per a la Just\u00edcia Global (EpJG)<\/a>, and funded by\u00a0FAS<\/a>, invited colleagues from the Universitat de Lleida to reflect on how literature and performance can serve as ethical responses to war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a welcome by Dr Cristina Pividori, coordinator of the\u00a0Words Beyond War<\/em><\/a>\u00a0project, the session opened with a brief presentation by Dr Andrea Bellot, who contextualised Lynn Nottage\u2019s Pulitzer Prize-winning play\u00a0Ruined<\/em>. The presentation explored the play\u2019s engagement with gender-based violence in the Congo and its poetic power as a theatrical testimony of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The heart of the session was a powerful performance by Laura Jarque, actress and TFG student, who interpreted selected songs from Ruined<\/em>\u2014the very play she has chosen as the focus of her final degree project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, which reflected on how this event ties into the broader goals of the POSTLIT and G4RoC research projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
