{"id":833,"date":"2026-01-30T14:18:27","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T12:18:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/beyond-postmemory\/?p=833"},"modified":"2026-01-30T17:07:41","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T15:07:41","slug":"call-for-papers-nature-remembers-war-trauma-and-environmental-postmemory-in-contemporary-anglophone-literature-and-culture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/beyond-postmemory\/2026\/01\/30\/call-for-papers-nature-remembers-war-trauma-and-environmental-postmemory-in-contemporary-anglophone-literature-and-culture\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Papers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nature Remembers: War, Trauma, and Environmental Postmemory in Contemporary Anglophone Literature and Culture<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are happy to share the Call for Papers for our upcoming collected volume &#8220;Nature Remembers: War, Trauma, and Environmental Postmemory in Contemporary Anglophone Literature and Culture.&#8221; In the same spirit as our homonymous October seminar, which showcased a variety of literary and cultural texts, critical approaches, and presentation formats, we welcome proposals that examine novel and interdisciplinary methodologies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suggested Themes and Topics<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We welcome contributions that address, but are not limited to, the following areas and questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Landscapes of Memory: <\/strong>How do battlefields, nuclear test sites, or deforested war zones operate as <em>lieux de m\u00e9moire<\/em> carrying the scars of conflict?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Postmemory and Non-Human Witnesses: <\/strong>What kinds of non-human witnessing do literary and cultural texts stage, and what do these perspectives disclose about loss, endurance, or responsibility?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Anthropocene and Slow Violence: <\/strong>To what extent can narrative make the slow, long-term environmental harm of conflict legible\u2014especially in relation to broader Anthropocene crises?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Intergenerational Trauma and Ecological Inheritance: <\/strong>How is the memory of conflict passed on through damaged environments and the stories communities tell about them?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Postcolonial Ecologies and Environmental Justice:<\/strong> What does environmental postmemory look like when reframed through postcolonial, Indigenous, or decolonial approaches to environmental justice?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Silenced Environmental Histories: <\/strong>Which war-related ecological traumas remain marginalised or forgotten, and how do cultural texts bring them into view?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Resilience and Reconciliation with Nature<\/strong>: How do texts imagine ecological recovery after conflict, and what ethical forms of care or reconciliation do they propose?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Submission Guidelines<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would be grateful to receive contributions from POSTLIT members as well as colleagues outside our research group.
