A visible-light-driven strategy based on a novel EDA complex enables efficient access to a broad range of lactones and tetrahydrofurans, including challenging alkyl and aryl substrates. We also report the first example of iminothianthrenes in EDA-complex-driven photochemistry. By optimizing catalysts and excitation conditions, we achieve benchmark hydrogen evolution rates above 100,000 \u03bcmol H<sub>2<\/sub> g\u207b\u00b9 h\u207b\u00b9, including highly efficient platinum-free systems. Moreover, the coating of cotton fabrics with silica nanoparticles functionalized with such antiinflamatory agents is found to increase the roughness of the surface, providing hydrophobicity to the modified fabrics. This property is enhanced by the addition of fluorinated alkyl silane (FAS) in the co-condensation process to form the coating solution. Characterization of the functionalized nanoparticles and cotton textiles is accomplished by microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. The treatment of functionalized nanoparticles and cotton fabrics with model proteases and leukocytes from animal origin results in the in situ release of the drug by the selective enzymatic cleavage of the amide bond. When covalently grafted upon paper, they give rise to a fluorescent-labeled paper upon irradiation with UV light. The hydrophobicity and oleophobicity of the fluorous (<em>E<\/em>)-stilbene derivative furnish self-cleaning properties. The reaction uses lanthanum (III) triflate and chiral pybox\u2010type C2\u2010symmetric ligands to generate intermediate La(III) complexes that incorporate an enolate moiety of the starting 3\u2010oxo ester and the trifluoromethyl transfer reagent. Fern\u00e1ndez and Prof. Pleixats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abstract:&nbsp;Soluble platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) have been prepared by a two\u2010step procedure involving the reduction of chloroplatinic acid with ethylene glycol\/NaOH at 160\u2009\u00b0C and subsequent treatment with a THF solution of a tris\u2010imidazolium tetrafluoroborate at room temperature. The isolated Pt NPs have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high\u2010resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), electron diffraction (ED), Energy\u2010Dispersive X\u2010ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and elemental analysis.
