Project Summary:

The COVID-19 pandemic raised numerous questions about the future of urban spaces, which are characterized by high population density and thus more vulnerable to the spread of the virus. At the same time, the rise of remote and hybrid work led to speculation about an urban crisis that could drive the decline and depopulation of the most densely populated areas in favor of less dense regions at the edges of metropolitan areas or beyond.

In this context, the “Cities in Movement” project (2021-2024) hypothesized that the pandemic might have triggered changes in residential preferences and migration patterns, influenced by socioeconomic conditions, potentially reshaping population settlement trends. We have thus analyzed how the pandemic affected the spatial reconfiguration of different social groups within cities.

This website presents the publications resulting from the project, along with a summary of the data used during the research, which may serve as a reference for future studies.
