Esperan\u00e7a Bielsa is Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology of the Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She holds an MA and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Glasgow. Before joining the Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona with a Ram\u00f3n y Cajal Fellowship in 2010, she was Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Leicester. She has also held positions as Research Fellow at Warwick University\u2019s Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Studies, and as Research Fellow and Sociology Tutor at the University of Glasgow. In 2015 she was Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Sociology of the University of Sussex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her research interests are in the areas of cultural sociology, social theory, globalisation and cosmopolitanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is the author of A Translational Sociology<\/em> (2023),\u00a0Cosmopolitanism and Translation<\/em>\u00a0(2016) and\u00a0The Latin American Urban Cr\u00f3nica\u00a0<\/em>(2006), and co-author of Benjamin y la traducci\u00f3n<\/em> (2024, with Antonio Aguilera) and\u00a0of\u00a0Translation in Global News<\/em>\u00a0(2009, with Susan Bassnett). She is editor of\u00a0The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Media<\/em>\u00a0(2022), co-editor of\u00a0The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Globalization<\/em>\u00a0(2021, with Dionysios Kapsaskis), and\u00a0of\u00a0Globalization, Political Violence and Translation<\/em>\u00a0(2009, with\u00a0Christopher Hughes). Her article ‘Cosmopolitanism as Translation’, published in\u00a0Cultural Sociology<\/em>\u00a08(4), 2014, was the\u00a0winner of the British Sociological Association\/ Sage Prize for Innovation and Excellence 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She is editor of the book series ‘Translation, Politics and Society’ (Routledge).<\/p>\n\n\n\n She is a member of the research groups Centre d’Estudis sobre Cultura, Pol\u00edtica i Societat of the University of Barcelona and GIR Traducci\u00f3n, Ideolog\u00eda, Cultura of the University of Salamanca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Contact details<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Dra.
