The objective of the study was to “Produce a guide for the design of evaluation by skills based on the study of successful actuations”. Its realization includes a study of multiple cases from a qualitative perspective. The sample, selected using maximum variation criteria and consultations with experts, was made up of 54 people associated to 9 degree courses in the Spanish territory. The instruments that were applied were individual and group interviews, discussion groups, field notes and direct observation.
The identification of cases developed in the form of advanced evaluation by skills was complex, because the degrees were found to be implanted in their first year, which made it difficult to access the evaluations when the process was not yet complete. Therefore, in many cases, experimental training programmes in the implantation of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) were accessed.
The identified conditions for success are related with the innovative culture of certificates and with institutional strategies for innovation support. “Good practices” in evaluation are identified and fundamental criteria are obtained that favour evaluation by skills as constructed and agreed by expert teachers. Finally, the same case study and the holding of expert seminars have become occasions for awareness, dissemination and creation of knowledge.
