Last Friday 24th March, researcher Stefany Álvarez (Geography UAB) participated in the 3rd session of the seminar of the Research Group in Geography and Gender of the academic year 22-23.

She presented her research, carried out as part of the Final Project of the Master’s Degree in Women’s, Gender and Citizenship Studies in 2021, entitled “GIS tools for feminist claims. A critical cartography of toponymy“. Research carried out in the conurbation of Temuco – Padre Las Casas (Chile), where she demonstrated the existing gender inequalities and local history through the toponymy of these urban spaces. She presented cartographies that demonstrate the invisibilisation of women in local toponymy, and especially of Mapuche women.

An exhaustive investigation that demonstrates the importance of GIS and cartography in critical and feminist geographies.
