On Monday 9 March, during the institutional event marking International Women’s Day, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona honored Maria Prats, professor and member of the Research Group on Geography and Gender, in recognition of her career and her contribution to research and teaching from a feminist perspective.
During the event, Rector Javier Lafuente presented the distinction to Prats, highlighting her leadership of the UAB Observatory for Equality and the work of the research group and the Department of Geography in promoting gender perspectives within the discipline. The Secretary General, Esther Zapater, emphasised the importance of creating inclusive university spaces and recognising women’s contributions to research and innovation.
Maria Prats thanked the colleagues and mentors who supported her career and underlined the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation, dedicating the recognition “to all women who have suffered gender-based violence.” The event concluded with the performance of several musical pieces by the UAB Choir.
This recognition reinforces the commitment of the Research Group on Geography and Gender and the UAB Department of Geography to critical research and the promotion of equality in academia.
