Seminar of the Research Group in Geography and Gender: Gender, Territory, and Solidarity Economy: Reflections from Theory and Practice<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 24th, the second seminar of the Research Group in Geography and Gender took place, focusing on the analysis of the relationships between capitalism, gender, and territory from diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives. The event featured the participation of two academic experts who offered complementary insights through their presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00faria Benach, professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Barcelona, opened the seminar with the presentation “Accumulation by Dispossession and Gender: A Theoretical Perspective.” Benach emphasized how neoliberal capitalism combines dynamics of extraction and redistribution with gender subordination and colonial exploitation, drawing on the work of scholars such as David Harvey and feminist theorists like Silvia Federici and Nancy Fraser. These intersections have sustained the capitalist system from its inception to the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Camila Paula de Souza, a PhD candidate in Geography at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo and visiting researcher at UAB, presented “Weaving Theoretical-Methodological Approaches between Feminism, Territory, and Solidarity Economy.” De Souza analyzed the experience of the Solidarity and Feminist Economy Network (RESF) in Brazil as a response to the labor precarization caused by neoliberalism. Using feminist methodologies, this network proposes alternatives for women\u2019s production and empowerment within a framework of solidarity economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This seminar provided an opportunity to create a space for critical reflection and dialogue on the connections between gender, territory, and economy, in a session marked by interdisciplinary perspectives committed to social transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
