Alla Shyrokova Manno (formerly Alla Perminova) holds a PhD in Translation from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (2003, 2016), with her degree officially recognized by Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona (2022). Her research is reflected in the book The Reception of Contemporary American Poetry in Translation<\/em> (in Ukrainian), where she develops reception theory in literary translation, exploring the influence of sociopolitical factors on the reception of works, the translator\u2019s freedom, censorship, and self-censorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With over 20 years of teaching and research experience, she has worked as a professor at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine), as a Fulbright Scholar and visiting researcher at Pennsylvania State University in the United States, and is currently a Serra H\u00fanter lecturer at Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her interdisciplinary research spans translation studies, comparative literature, postcolonial, and gender studies, with over 50 academic articles, 30 conference presentations, and 5 competitive research projects. She is also a literary translator, having completed over 20 translation and editing projects. Her most recent translations include Ukraine 22. Ukrainian Writers Respond to the War<\/em> (2023, UK: Penguin, edited by Mark Andryczyk) and Zelensky, A Biography<\/em> by Serhii Rudenko (2022, UK: Polity).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2013, she was awarded the Fulbright Prize by the U.S. Department of State for her achievements in research, outreach, and promotion of international cooperation. In 1992, she won first prize in the Oleg Olzhych Literary Contest, granted by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, for her original poetry in Ukrainian language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
