Elena Olivera Begué graduated from Chemical engineering at UAB in 2021. During her program, she obtained and Erasmus + scholarship to go to Denmark Technical University (DTU). Then, she did an extracurricular internship at GICOM during her fourth year. Elena obtained the Europe-Colorado Mobility program by Colorado University of Boulder, which allowed her to do her BSc Thesis on Copper Adsorption with BOF-Slag Using Synthetic and Industrial Solutions. During her Bachelor, she participated in entrepreneurship programs for sustainable business such as The Journey (a summer school by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology) and Programa de Generació d’Idees (a 4-month challenge by the Research Park at UAB).
Elena did her MSc on Environmental Sciences with the specialization of Environmental Technology at Wageningen University and Research (WUR). Her MSc thesis was titled Biological Reduction of Elemental Sulfur to H2S for Heavy Metal Recovery. During her stay at WUR, she also worked as a research and teacher assistant. She returned to GICOM for her MSc Internship on Effect of Biochar on the Gaseous Emissions from Biowaste Digestate Composting. She will stay continuing this line of research as her PhD. Her supervisors are Dr. Antoni Sánchez and Dr. Daniel González.
