Estefanía Nathaly Eras Muñoz is from Ecuador, where she studied Biotechnology Engineering at the Universidad de las Américas. Later, she pursued a master’s degree in advanced microbiology with a mention in Environmental Biotechnology and Environmental Microbiology at the University of Barcelona. The topic of her Master’s Thesis was the Quantification of Campylobacter spp. and total heterotrophs in samples from drinking water treatment plants.
This year, she joined the GICOM group as a PhD student in the Biotechnology program at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her research is focused on the production of biosurfactants using Starmerella Bombicola in Solid-State Fermentation, under the supervision of Dr. Xavier Font and Dr. Teresa Gea.
