style=\"background-color:var(--color-blanc);color:var(--color-marca-primari)\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Bioconversion of Organic Waste and New Materials Research Group (GICOM)<\/strong><\/mark> of the Department of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering at the Autonomous University of Barcelona was founded in 2000 with a clear objective: to study composting as a sustainable technology for the biological treatment of organic waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"research-and-innovation-in-bioprocesses\">Research and innovation in bioprocesses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, without neglecting composting, GICOM has expanded its research focus within the framework of the Circular Economy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Production of bioproducts from solid-state fermentation<\/strong> (SSF) processes using organic waste.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Application of <strong>nanotechnology in environmental engineering<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Optimization of the composting<\/strong> process as a key technology in sustainable waste management.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Anaerobic digestion<\/strong>, including the use of additives to improve the process across different temperature ranges (psychrophilic, mesophilic, and thermophilic).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Diffuse emissions<\/strong>, including the analysis of emissions in landfills and waste treatment facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2026, the GICOM group has offered analytical services through the <strong>LaBioMat <\/strong>Service Laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div
