We are pleased to announce that GLOBAL INTEL has submitted the RESCATAM-NED proposal within the framework of the PROYECTOS DE GENERACIÓN DE CONOCIMIENTO – 2024, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities.
The RESCATAM-NED project addresses the urgent need to combat transnational trafficking of women and girls in the digital environment within the European Union. Leveraging an innovative and multidimensional approach, the project focuses on identifying and mitigating the criminal dynamics that thrive on digital platforms, as well as addressing the regulatory gaps that enable such exploitation.
Key Objectives of RESCATAM-NED
- Mapping Digital Environments and Tools for Exploitation
- Define the concept of “digital environment” to establish the research scope.
- Analyze digital platforms and virtual spaces used at different stages of human trafficking, including social networks, messaging services, content platforms like OnlyFans, and crypto-asset-based technologies.
- Explore the legal and ethical challenges posed by these digital tools.
- Conduct a comprehensive mapping of platforms and their roles in the trafficking cycle.
- Evaluating Legal Frameworks and Identifying Gaps
- Assess the adequacy of national and international legal frameworks to identify loopholes that facilitate criminal activities.
- Propose reforms tailored to address technological advancements that enable new forms of exploitation.
- Developing Practical Recommendations and Tools
- Create actionable proposals for reforms in prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership.
- Engage policymakers, legislators, and digital platforms to ensure active participation in combating the misuse of digital spaces.
- Promote cooperation between platforms and authorities through enhanced surveillance measures, data protection, and rapid response mechanisms.
- Design awareness-raising and training tools for judicial operators, law enforcement, and civil society organizations to foster a coordinated response.
Project Vision
RESCATAM-NED aspires to offer a holistic solution to transnational trafficking in the digital age, focusing on human rights protection and strengthening legal frameworks. By addressing the complexities introduced by digital technologies, the project aims to eradicate trafficking and empower key stakeholders to deliver a more effective response.
We look forward to the opportunity to contribute to advancing knowledge and creating impactful legal and practical frameworks that address one of the most pressing human rights challenges of our time.
