We are delighted to announce that LĂdia Ballesta MartĂ, member of the GLOBAL INTEL research group, has been awarded the Extraordinary Doctoral Award (Premi Extraordinari de Doctorat) by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) for her outstanding PhD thesis, defended in November 2023.
The official award ceremony took place on May 16th, 2025, at the UAB.

LĂdia’s doctoral thesis focuses on the evolving landscape of intellectual property rights in the digital era, examining the balance between innovation, access to knowledge, and legal protections. Her work offers a critical and interdisciplinary perspective on how IP law should adapt to current technological challenges and societal needs.
Her thesis has recently been published as a monograph by Springer, consolidating her contribution to the field of legal and digital studies.
