I am a Physical Anthropology professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). I lead a consolidated multidisciplinary research group in Biological Anthropology, (GREAB), recognized by the Generalitat de Catalunya (ref. 2014 SGR 1420), and the Molecular and Population Anthropology group of this University which study the diversity of human populations at the biodemographic-genetic-molecular level and its application to the historical reconstruction of populations. Since February 2010, I have been director of the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology, at the Faculty of Biosciences of the UAB.
Main areas of research
- Evolutionary study of modern human populations at a molecular level.
- Evolutionary aspect of mitochondrial DNA and its role in both normal and pathological variability (glioma and cardiovascular diseases) in our species.
