LINE UP Project

Rethinking educational inequalities from a longitudinal perspective

The “LINEup” project (Longitudinal data for INequalities in Education) , promoted with the support of the European Commission within the Horizon Europe program, began in February 2024 and will end in January 2027. This project involves a consortium of institutions and universities from across Europe, including the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). The main objective of LINEup is to identify the factors that allow for ensuring inclusive and quality education for all students by analyzing longitudinal data on academic performance and the development of basic skills in students between 6 and 18 years of age from several European countries.

OBJECTIVES

The general objectives of the project are:

  • Identify the factors that ensure inclusive and quality education for all students.
  • Analyze how educational inequalities affect students’ academic and personal progress over time.
  • Studying disparities in academic outcomes and key competencies that influence school success.
  • Contribute to the formulation of fairer and more effective educational policies based on exhaustive data collection and analysis.

METHODOLOGY

The LINEup project uses a mixed methodology that combines quantitative and qualitative techniques:

  • Quantitative analysis:
    • Development of a longitudinal database map.
    • Analysis of data on educational inequalities in Spain and other European countries.
    • Identification of patterns of academic inequality and their evolution over time.
  • Qualitative analysis:
    • Interviews and discussion groups with students and teachers in nine Catalan schools.
    • Observation and data collection in educational centers to better understand the factors that influence inequalities.

The LINEup project began with a kick-off meeting organized by the Fondazione per la Scuola della Compagnia di San Paolo in Turin, Italy, which coordinates the consortium formed by fourteen institutions from various European countries.
