RALC tracking. Analysis of educational trajectories (2020-2021)

This project studies early school leaving in Spain, which affects young people between 18 and 24 years old who do not continue studying after completing compulsory secondary education (ESO) and do not obtain an upper secondary qualification. This phenomenon reflects social inequalities and schooling conditions. The study is based on data provided by the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Superior Council for the Evaluation of the Educational System, following the itineraries of 73,947 students born in 2001 in Catalonia to explore how academic grades, the socioeconomic environment and the complexity of the educational center influence school dropout. Project funded by the Social Observatory of the La Caixa Foundation.

OBJECTIVES

  • Analyze the impact of academic performance on early school leaving.
  • Identify the influence of socioeconomic factors on the decision to continue or abandon studies.
  • Examine the relationship between the concentration of vulnerable students in high-complexity centers and the probability of dropping out.

METHODOLOGY

This project is based on the analysis of registration data provided by the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Higher Council for the Evaluation of the Educational System. The educational paths of 73,947 students born in 2001 were followed, correlating their grades in secondary school with the continuation or abandonment of their studies. Factors such as educational delay, the presence of students with special needs, and the complexity of the school were also taken into account.
