Cities Project Barcelona: An international comparative study in urban contexts 2013-2019

The project “Cities Project Barcelona: Preparing young people for their educational and employment transitions” is an international study that focuses on the analysis of the educational and employment itineraries of urban youth once they have completed Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO). This research focuses on understanding how young people plan their educational and work future, what decisions they make and the reasons that drive them. This project also aims to improve youth guidance and support processes, with the aim of providing young people with a more effective transition to adult life.

OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of the project are:

  1. To deepen knowledge about the way in which young people build their educational and work paths after completing secondary education.
  2. Identify the educational and employment choices that young people make and the factors that influence these decisions.
  3. Improve youth guidance and support processes in order to facilitate more successful transitions adapted to the needs of young people.

METHODOLOGY

The main data collection instrument for this project is a student panel. This longitudinal study began during the 2013-2014 academic year, selecting students in 4th year of secondary education, as well as other students who turned 16 during 2014. These students were monitored over the following four years, collecting data that allows us to analyze and understand the educational and employment transitions of young people over time.

This project has had two waves of funding from the Knowledge Development Plan.
