GRET – Grup de Recerca en Educació i Treball (Research Group on Education and Work)
The Education and Work Research Group (GRET) was created in 1987 by three researchers and professors from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The goal of the three founding members was to combine the discipline of sociology with economics and social psychology, their respective academic backgrounds. Thus, the coherence of this research group has been built over the years through joint work.
The research trajectory of the group has been structured into three lines of research, led by the three senior researchers who, over time, have incorporated other researchers interested in these three areas of study:
- Youth and the School-to-Work Transition
- Educational Expansion, Skills, and the Labor Market
- University Studies
Despite having three well-defined lines of research, cooperation and mobility of researchers across the different lines is a common practice at GRET. This practice, together with regular meetings and monthly seminars where the group gathers to share updates on teaching, research, and dissemination activities, provides cohesion and fosters cross-cutting work within GRET.
Finally, it is worth highlighting the presence of GRET’s “External Collaborators.” These external collaborators have made it possible for the group’s research work, during this period, to benefit from the contributions of renowned international scholars considered “external collaborators,” who, despite not being formal members of the group, have played an important role in achieving the research outcomes.
