The research group focuses on infectious and inflammatory diseases, primarily in dogs, cats, and horses, covering aspects of epidemiology,  genetics, pathogenesis, immunology, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, prevention, and the &#8220;One Health&#8221; perspective. The most relevant zoonotic infectious diseases studied by the MIAC group include canine, feline, and equine leishmaniasis, West Nile virus, and human, canine, and feline bartonellosis. Additionally, the group also works on other zoonotic infectious diseases such as rickettsiosis, anaplasmosis, and filariasis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p>Furthermore, the group conducts research on non-zoonotic infectious<br>diseases such as canine and feline demodicosis, ehrlichiosis, babesiosis,<br>hemoplasmosis, feline retroviral infections, bacterial cholangitis, and<br>canine pyoderma. The team is also actively working on non-infectious<br>inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases in dogs and cats, including<br>sterile neutrophilic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, otitis externa and media,<br>immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, immune-mediated<br>thrombocytopenia, and polyarthritis, among others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"887\" src=\"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/grmiac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2025\/07\/5-1024x887.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-78\" srcset=\"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/grmiac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2025\/07\/5-1024x887.png 1024w, https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/grmiac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2025\/07\/5-300x260.png 300w, https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/grmiac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2025\/07\/5-768x665.png 768w, https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/grmiac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2025\/07\/5-1536x1331.png 1536w, https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/grmiac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2025\/07\/5-1200x1040.png 1200w, https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/grmiac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2025\/07\/5.png 1772w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the group also carries out research in transfusion and<br>regenerative medicine, coagulation disorders, platelet function, and<br>endocrine diseases such as diabetes mellitus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">General Objective<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-ad2f72ca wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p>The overall objective of the MIAC research group is to enhance excellence in<br>research, increase internationalization, and improve knowledge transfer in<br>various aspects of infectious and inflammatory diseases in companion animals.<br>This is achieved through a multidisciplinary approach under the &#8220;One Health&#8221;<br>framework and comparative biomedicine concepts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Goals of MIAC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond its research activities, MIAC aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Disseminate and transfer research findings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide training for veterinary postgraduates (interns and residents) as<br>well as professionals in veterinary, health, and life sciences on various<br>aspects related to infectious and inflammatory diseases in companion<br>animals. This includes organizing congresses, workshops, and seminars.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote a multidisciplinary approach under the &#8220;One Health&#8221; framework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What do we do?
