UAB, HOME OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON GENDER STUDIES IN EGYPT AND THE ANCIENT NEAR EAST (EGEPOA)
<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Conference on Gender Studies in Egypt and the Ancient Near East (EGEPOA) took place on 17 and 18 October 2024. This initiative is organised and promoted by young researchers whose work is part of gender studies. It is supported by both UAB teaching staff and external professionals, as well as with the support and funding of the Deganat of the Facultat de Filosofia i Lletres, the Doctoral Programme in Antiquity and Middle Eastern Sciences, the Department of Antiquity and Middle Eastern Sciences, the Area of \u200b\u200bAncient History of the same department and the Institute of Antiquity and Near Eastern Studies (IEPOA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Held in a hybrid format in the Sala de Graus<\/em> of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (UAB). It was a meeting of researchers at the beginning of their academic careers (master\u2019s, doctorate, postdoctorate) from different national and international centers, who had in common the study of ancient Egypt and the Ancient Near East from a gender studies perspective. Beyond the intellectual exchange, the EGEPOA conferences were seen as a space for building networks between participants and attendees. Given the success of the call\u2014both in the call for papers and in registrations\u2014the Organizing and Scientific Committees decided to hold this meeting biennially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simultaneously with the Conference, between September 30 and November 12, the temporary exhibition \u201cEntre dos cultures: els estudis de g\u00e8nere en Egipte i Pr\u00f2xim Orient Antics\u201d was held, in collaboration with the Biblioteca d\u2019Humanitats<\/em> (UAB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this initiative has been to bring students closer to the recommended bibliography on a wide variety of topics related to gender studies. The more than 50 titles compiled responded to the thematic axes that underpin the discipline. All of this is accompanied by a series of information panels with content related to gender studies in Egypt and the Near East, which are published on our networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UAB, HOST OF THE 2ND IBERO-AMERICAN CONGRESS OF YOUNG RESEARCHERS IN EGYPTOLOGY (II CIJIE)
<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

From June 26th<\/sup> to 29th<\/sup>, tne 2nd<\/sup> Ibero-American Congress of Young Researchers in Egyptology (II CIJIE) will take place, organized by doctoral and master\u2019s students from the UAB, with the support of the Department of Studies in Antiquity and the Middle Ages and the Institute for Ancient Near Eastern Studies at our university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This virtual conference will bring together emerging researchers in Ibero-American Egyptology and aims to serve as a forum for networking, debate, and showcasing the current dynamism of this discipline in various countries across Ibero-America. With this edition, the UAB aims to contribute to the consolidation of this event, further promoting Egyptological research in our countries and languajes, and creating networks for scientific discussion among researchers in the early stages of their academic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of four days, more than 50 presentations will be distributed across seven sessions, covering topics ranging from Predynastic to Roman Period: Archaeology and Art, Gender and Society, History, Religion and Funerary Practices, Digital Humanities, Collections, and Literature and Philology. EGYPTOLOGICAL EVENTS 2022 AT THE UAB
<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

As is well known, this year 2022 we are celebrating two Egyptological anniversaries of great significance and international media impact: no less than 200 years since the decipherment of the Egyptian hieroglyphs and 100 years since the discovery of Tutankhamun\u2019s tomb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IEPOA of the UAB wishes to join in the celebration of these events, which marked milestones in the history of Egyptology and the human sciences in general, with two commemorative academic events that will take place on the same dates as the commemorated events (or one day apart, in the case of the second one).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, this year marks an \u201cinternal\u201d Egyptological milestone at the UAB: the 30th anniversary of the first Egyptology classes at our university, within the framework of the Master in Oriental Studies: Egyptology and Assyriology, taught by the IEPOA from the academic year 1992-93. Since then, Egyptology has been present uninterruptedly in the educational offer of our university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice-rectorate for Communication and Culture of the UAB, in collaboration with the IEPOA, the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, and the Department of Ancient and Middle Ages Sciences, is also preparing a commemorative exhibition on all these anniversaries entitled Beyond<\/em> Tutankhamun<\/em>, which will be inaugurated in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
