U-ELCOME aims to enable the scalable market deployment of U-space U1 and U2 services through large-scale demonstrations across Europe. The project develops, tests, and validates SESAR U-space solutions at 15 operational sites in Spain, Italy, and France, combining digital and physical infrastructures to reach TRL 8.
U-ELCOME focuses on U1 foundation services, such as e-registration, e-identification, and geo-awareness, which enable safe drone operations, particularly in low-density airspace, and on U2 initial services, which support BVLOS operations and initial integration with ATM/ATC and manned aviation. U2 services include strategic deconfliction, tactical geofencing, emergency management, flight planning and monitoring, tracking, traffic and weather information, and procedural interfaces with ATC.
The project relies on real pre-operational U-space systems deployed by ENAIRE, ENAV, D-Flight, and Thales, and demonstrates representative civil and commercial use cases such as medical and goods delivery, inspections, and urban aerial operations. Working closely with EASA and national authorities, U-ELCOME also contributes to regulatory and standardization consolidation, accelerating the deployment of U-space services in Europe.
Within U-ELCOME, our research group contributes as a U-space Service Provider (USSP) technology provider, delivering advanced decision-support and traffic management capabilities that are validated in real operational environments. We actively support multi‑USSP shared U-space deployments, enabling interoperability, information exchange, and coordinated operations among multiple service providers. Our research outcomes are demonstrated in live, large-scale scenarios, contributing directly to the safe and efficient management of drone operations and to the practical realization of shared U-space concepts.
