We have applied a taxonomy-learning activity with 98 11-years-old students. Students are taught to classify items and to transfer classification abilities to near-transference and far-transference contexts. Students are able to develop classification abilities on several contexts, but they have strong difficulties to transfer it to living beings. Even after introducing classification procedures in other contexts, inadequate taxonomy criteria from previous educational stages emerge when transferred to some parts of the classification tree.
