In 1994, the first University Archives Conference was held in Valladolid, organized by the Conference of Archives of Spanish Universities (CAU). This event was created to promote collaboration among university archives. With a technical focus, the conference has become an essential tool for the development and consolidation of archives in Spanish universities. Moreover, it has become an important meeting point for professionals in the field of archives and records management, allowing them to share experiences, concerns, and projects.
This year, 2025, the 30th University Archives Conference (CAU CRUE) and the ICA/SUV 2025 Annual International Conference will take place on October 27 and 28 in the city of Barcelona. This will be a perfect professional opportunity to participate in both events, two key dates for our profession.
The conference has been jointly organized by the Conference of Archives of Spanish Universities (CAU CRUE), the Section of University Archives of the International Council on Archives (ICA/SUV), and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. It will be held at the Casa de la Convalescència of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau.
Under the title “Innovative University and Research Archives. Challenges for Sustainability”, the conference will address the challenges and perspectives faced by university archives in relation to issues such as climate change and sustainability. These challenges may lead to significant changes both in the infrastructure of our institutions and in archival practices. One example is the difficulties archives face during climate events such as heatwaves or floods. These are current issues that may require a thorough review of aspects such as the preservation and conservation of materials, or even the location and conditions of archival storage facilities, in order to tackle these challenges.
Topics related to increasing energy consumption will also be addressed, which, within the framework of electronic administration, make records appraisal even more crucial for advancing the sustainability of public administrations.
The conferences will be held in Spanish and English, with simultaneous translation available.
