The Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) was granted use of the building in 1969, with the aim of developing various academic activities, thus consolidating the university’s presence in the city.
The renovation and rehabilitation of the Casa, initiated in 1998 and carried out under the direction of the architectural firm Tusquets-Díaz & Asociados, with the ambitious goal of restoring its original form, was completed in October 1999 when it was re-inaugurated.
Prior to this, the entire hospital complex, including the Casa, was declared a Historic Artistic Monument in 1978 and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Today, Casa Convalescència serves as the headquarters of the Autonomous University of Barcelona Foundation in the city.
