It is also aimed at\u00a0helping our community to strengthen\u00a0its knowledge of the English language and acquire the linguistic competence in English that is widely considered to be necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Loosely modelled on existing style manuals (including the <a class=\"link-extern\" title=\"English Style Guide\" href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/translation\/english\/guidelines\/documents\/styleguide_english_dgt_en.pdf\"><em>English Style Guide<\/em><\/a> of the European Commission\u2019s Directorate-General for Translation and <a class=\"link-extern\" title=\"The Chicago Manual of Style\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagomanualofstyle.org\/home.html\"><em>The Chicago Manual of Style<\/em><\/a>), the <em>Guide<\/em> is organised into different sections addressing specific and general aspects of language style.
