Dr. Ángeles Vázquez-Castro is an ANECA-certified Full Professor (Spain) at the Department of Telecommunications and Systems Engineering, Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), where she leads the research group on Quantum Communications for Space Applications, with projects primarily funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and European Union.
From 2002 to 2004, she was a Research Fellow at the European Space Agency in Noordwijk (The Netherlands), and has held visiting and invited professorships at the University of Southern California (USC), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Oslo (UNIK, 2008–2012), and the University of Houston (UH, 2023).
Her contributions span both research and standardization, including contributing to international standards such as DVB-S2, ITU-R S.1897, and DVB-RCS2. She has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed papers, 13 book chapters, one edited book, and two patents (one classical, one quantum).
She is a founding member of the ESA-funded SatNEx network of satellite communications experts and a Senior Member of the IEEE (Communications, Information Theory, Aerospace and Electronic Systems) and the AIAA, where she served as General Chair of the 2025 AIAA Satellite Communications Conference.
Her current research focuses on quantum protocol design, hybridization with post-quanum cryptography, system-level engineering, and performance evaluation for secure and efficient space communication systems.
