Dr. \u00c1ngeles V\u00e1zquez-Castro<\/strong> is Professor <\/strong>at the Department of Telecommunications and Systems Engineering, Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB)<\/strong>, where she leads the research group on Quantum Security and Communications for Space Applications<\/strong>, with projects primarily funded by the European Space Agency (ESA)<\/strong> and European Union.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2002 to 2004, she was a Research Fellow at the European Space Agency<\/strong> in Noordwijk (The Netherlands), and has held visiting and invited professorships at the University of Southern California (USC)<\/strong>, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)<\/strong>, University of Oslo (UNIK, 2008\u20132012)<\/strong>, and the University of Houston (UH, 2023)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her contributions span both research and standardization, including contributing to international standards such as DVB-S2<\/strong>, ITU-R S.1897<\/strong>, and DVB-RCS2<\/strong>. She has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed papers<\/strong>, 13 book chapters<\/strong>, one edited book<\/strong>, and two patents<\/strong> (one classical, one quantum).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is a founding member<\/strong> of the ESA-funded SatNEx network<\/strong> of satellite communications experts and a Senior Member<\/strong> of the IEEE<\/strong> (Communications, Information Theory, Aerospace and Electronic Systems) and the AIAA<\/strong>, where she served as General Chair of the 2025 AIAA Satellite Communications Conference<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her current research focuses on quantum cryptography for near-Earth and cis<\/strong>lunar communications.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
