Last May 5th took place the fifth session of the IX<\/strong> Annual Seminars’ Series on Migration<\/strong> organised by GRM: Crist\u00f3bal Mendoza <\/strong>(Universidad Aut\u00f3noma Metropolitana, M\u00e9xico DF): \u201cGeograf\u00eda y migraci\u00f3n internacional entre M\u00e9xico y los Estados Unidos de Am\u00e9rica\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last April 7th took place the fourth session of the IX<\/strong> Annual Seminars’ Series on Migration<\/strong> organised by GRM: Miriam Acebillo and Eva \u00d8stergaard <\/strong>(Departament de Ci\u00e8ncia Pol\u00edtica i Dret P\u00fablic, UAB): \u201cPol\u00edtiques p\u00fabliques locals i incorporaci\u00f3 de migrants: les ciutats de Barcelona, Tarragona, Lleida i Girona.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last March 23rd took place the third session of the IX<\/strong> Annual Seminars’ Series on Migration<\/strong> organised by GRM: Dani\u00e8le Joly<\/strong> (Director of Centre for Research in Ethnic Relations-CRER, University of Warwick) \u201cDel multiculturalismo al paradigma musulm\u00e1n en el Reino Unido<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last February the 3rd<\/strong> took place the second session of the IX<\/strong> Annual Seminars’ Series on Migration<\/strong> organised by GRM: Rinus Penninx <\/strong>(IMES, Universitaat van Amsterdam -UvA-, and Director of IMISCOE); \u201cThe Art of Policy-Making in the field of Integration: EU national and local integration policies and their relation\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last February the 3rd<\/strong> took place the first sesion of the IX<\/strong> Annual Seminars’ Series on Migration<\/strong> organised by GRM with the title \u201cLes onades migrat\u00f2ries en el sistema catal\u00e0 de reproducci\u00f3\u201d. Anna Cabr\u00e9<\/strong>, Director of the Centre d\u2019Estudis Demogr\u00e0fics (CED).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last May 27th<\/strong> took place the seventh and last session of the VIIIth Seminar Series on Migration<\/strong> organized by GRM with the title \u201cDevelopment of migration policy in Poland\u201d<\/strong>. Patrycja Matusz (U. Between 27th September and 2nd October 2009 took place in Marrakech the XXVI IUSSP International Population Conference<\/strong><\/a>. The GRM members \u00c0ngels Pascual, Miguel Solana and Ver\u00f3nica de Miguel presented a paper in the congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The days 17th, 18th and 19th of September 2009 took place in A Coru\u00f1a the VI Congreso sobre las Migraciones en Espa\u00f1a<\/strong><\/a> organized by ESOMI. Several GRM members presented papers in the mentioned congress: Ricard Mor\u00e9n-Alegret, \u00c0ngels Pascual-de-Sans, Crist\u00f3bal Mendoza, Pap Sow and Albert Mas-Palacios; Dawid Wladyka; and Eva Ostergaaard as invited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 9th to 11th of September 2009 took place in Stockholm the IMISCOE and SUSDIV annual meeting with the title “Sustainable diversity, migration and social cohesion”<\/strong><\/a>. Ricard Mor\u00e9n-Alegret is going to present a paper in the congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last 22nd of May took place the ninth seminar of the VII Seminar Series on Migration<\/a><\/strong> organized by GRM with the title \u201cMigracions i pol\u00edtiques educatives. Last 20th April took place the eighth seminar of the VII Seminar Series on Migration<\/a><\/strong> organized by GRM with the title \u201cOut of Albania: key themes in Albania’s post-1990 migration experience\u201d<\/strong>. Russell King <\/strong>(Sussex University).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday 17th of April, \u00c0ngels Pascual<\/strong> carried out a conference within the V Congr\u00e9s Catal\u00e0 de Sociologia<\/a><\/strong>, which it was focused on the issue “Inmigration and catalan society”. The title of the conference “L\u2019estudi de les migracions a Catalunya; l\u2019estudi de la societat catalana”<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last 26th March took place the seventh seminar of the VII Seminar Series on Migration<\/a><\/strong> organized by GRM with the title \u201cNavegant entre fronteres socials i educatives: fills i filles d’immigrants a Calif\u00f2rnia i Catalunya\u201d<\/strong>. S\u00edlvia Carrasco, Jordi P\u00e0mies and Maribel Ponferrada (EMIGRA, UAB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been put into operation the Observatori de la Immigraci\u00f3 a Catalunya (migracat.cat) <\/strong><\/a>web page. Migracat it has been promoted by Fundaci\u00f3 Jaume Bofill and some GRM members have collaborated on the elaboration of its contents. Recently it has been published the research La recerca en migracions a Catalunya, 2003-2007 <\/a><\/em>by Pau Mota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday 23rd of December 2008 Xavier Ferrer<\/strong> has read his doctoral thesis, “La reconfiguraci\u00f3 de la frontera entre Espanya i el Marroc: continu\u00eftat i discontinu\u00eftat territorial a l\u00b4escenari fronterer Ceuta-Finideq”<\/strong>. The thesis has received the appraisal excellent cum laude<\/em> for unanimity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last 9 December took the fourth seminar of the VII Seminar Series on Migration<\/a><\/strong> organized by GRM with the title \u201cAdolescentes y j\u00f3venes inmigrantes e hijos de inmigrantes (segundas generaciones)\u201d<\/strong>. Estrella Gualda<\/strong> (Universidad de Huelva).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last 24th November took place the third seminar of the VII Seminar Series on Migration<\/a><\/strong> organized by GRM with the title \u201cNew patterns of international labour migration in England: regional and sub- regional perspectives\u201d<\/strong>. Anne Green & David Owen<\/strong> (University of Warwick).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last 14th November took place the second seminar of the VII Seminar Series on Migration<\/a><\/strong> organized by GRM with the title \u201cMigracions i desenvolupament al Marroc\u201d<\/strong>. Joan Lacomba<\/strong> (Universitat de Val\u00e8ncia).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last 5th November took place the first seminar of the VII Seminar Series on Migration<\/a><\/strong> organized by GRM with the title \u201cInmigraci\u00f3n y acceso a la vivienda en Portugal. Problemas y cambios”. Jorge Malheiros<\/strong> (Universidade de Lisboa).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ricard Mor\u00e9n<\/strong> took part in the congress “Interacci\u00f3 2008. On October 22\u201323, 2008, the\u00a0\u2018Managing Immigration and Diversity in Quebec and Canada Forum\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0took place in Barcelona, Spain. This two-day symposium, founded and directed by\u00a0Dr. Dan Rodriguez-Garcia<\/strong>, a professor in the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and a member of the Migration Research Group (GRM), brought together 15 internationally renowned Canadian experts to examine and discuss crucial matterson migration.\u00a0Click here for more information obout the Forum and see the photo gallery of the Forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0ngels Pascual<\/strong> took part as invited in a specialized speech in the 21st Col\u00b7loqui Germano-Catal\u00e0 <\/strong>organized by Kiel University (Germany)<\/strong>. \u00c0ngels Pascual<\/strong> is going to be part of the scientist committee of the \u201cVI Congreso sobre la Imigraci\u00f3n en Espa\u00f1a\u201d<\/strong> which is going to take place in La Coru\u00f1a on September 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Monday 2nd of June<\/strong> took place the fourth seminar of the IV Cicle de Seminaris sobre Migracions<\/a><\/strong> organized by GRM, with the title \u201cRedes sociales de apoyo: interacciones entre espa\u00f1oles y extranjeros\u201d<\/strong>. Dra. Last Monday 5th of May<\/strong> took place the third seminar of the IV Cicle de Seminaris sobre Migracions<\/strong> organized by GRM, with the title \u201cCandel: una cr\u00f2nica de la immigraci\u00f3 a Catalunya\u201d<\/strong>. Carme Parramon<\/strong> (Grup de Recerca sobre Migracions) and Gen\u00eds Sinca<\/strong> (Journalist and Francesc Candel biographer).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Friday 25th of April, \u00c0ngels Pascual carried out the account \u201cLa noci\u00f3n de retorno. Sentido(s) en el contexto migratorio actual\u201d<\/em> with its following debate. This account it was done inside the XI Congreso de Inmigraci\u00f3n<\/strong> that took place at the Universidad de Almer\u00eda on 23, 24, 25 and 26 of April <\/strong>2008. Last Monday 21st of Apri<\/strong>l took place the second seminar of VI Cicle de Seminaris sobre Migracions<\/strong> organized by GRM with the title “The demography of family reunification in Spain: emerging dilemmas for Gambians and other immigrants”<\/strong> Prof. Caroline Bledsoe<\/strong>, Northwestern University, EUA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 2008, Dr. Papa Sow<\/strong> has obtained a Marie Curie contract<\/strong> to establish for 2 years at the Centre for Research in Ethnic Relations, CRER, of the University of Warwick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“NEW RESEARCH PROJECT: <\/strong>Dr. Ricard Mor\u00e9n-Alegret<\/strong> has obtained funding from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education, in a competitive call for proposals of Programa Jos\u00e9 Castillejo<\/strong><\/em>, to carry out a research project in Great Britain during 2008 on Cultural diversity, symbolic integration and local organisations.<\/strong>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miguel Solana and Clara Parramon<\/strong> has collaborated on the coordination and edition of a monographic number of the \u201cQuaderns d’Estudi\u201d review<\/strong> about the foreign immigration in the city of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. The title of the number is “Aportacions al voltant de la immigraci\u00f3 estrangera a l’Hospitalet”<\/strong>, Quaderns d’Estudi n. 20. Miguel Solana and Clara Parramon are members of the \u201cConsell de Redacci\u00f3 del Centre d’Estudis de l’Hospitalet\u201d. On Wednesday 12th of March, took place the act of presentation of this number in the Centre Cultural Metropolit\u00e0 Tecla Sala (L’Hospitalet).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Monday 10th of March<\/strong> took place the first seminar of VI Cicle de Seminaris sobre Migracions<\/strong> organized by GRM with the title \u201cLa migraci\u00f3n M\u00e9xico-Estados Unidos a principios del siglo XXI\u201d<\/strong>. Elaine Levine <\/strong>(Universidad Nacional Aut\u00f3noma de M\u00e9xico).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last 14th and 15th of February (2008) took place the International Symposium “Nuevos retos del transnacionalismo en el estudio de las migraciones”<\/strong>, organized by GEDIME (Grup d’Estudis sobre Immigraci\u00f3 i Minories \u00c8tniques), in which participated \u00c0ngels Pacual as a chairperson in the round table discussion \u201cMaternidades transnacionales entre Am\u00e9rica Latina y el Estado espa\u00f1ol: El impacto de las pol\u00edticas migratorias en las estrategias de reagrupaci\u00f3n familiar\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some GRM members have collaborated on the set up of the Fundaci\u00f3 Jaume Bofill\u2019s \u201cObservatori sobre la Immigraci\u00f3\u201d<\/strong>. Along the first month of 2008 \u00c0ngels Pascual has collaborated as a consultant of the Project and other GRM members have done summaries about research projects which are an important part of the web, that in a few time it\u2019s going to start to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, November 26 (2007) took place at the Institut d’Estudis Catalans the speech reception of \u00c0ngels Pascual de Sans as a membre numeraria<\/strong> of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Section of the IEC. The speech focused on ” La mobilitat espacial i l’assentament de la poblaci\u00f3. The Foundation Lluis Carulla has edited his usual Nadala<\/strong>, the year 2007 dedicated to ” Immigraci\u00f3. Les onades immigrat\u00f2ries en la Catalunya contempor\u00e0nia”. A series of colleagues have made several contributions.
