The shorts produced in the framework of the \u00a0project Young natural interpreters: child language brokering in education, social services and healthcare settings<\/em><\/a>, led by MIRAS researcher Mireia Vargas-Urp\u00ed<\/a>, have received a Special Mention during the Award Granting Ceremony for Diversity in Audiovisual Media by the Audiovisual Council of Catalonia<\/strong>. The awards are granted to Catalan media, organizations and journalists who promote diversity in the audiovisual sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MIRAS\u2019 project focus has been on the roles children of migrants very oftentake on as linguistic mediators between their families and public services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this project, six audiovisual shorts were produced by Zoe Catsaras<\/a> and Bego\u00f1a Ruiz de Infante <\/a>, and they include first hand testimonies addressing the complexity minors face when they find themselves in the middle. The jury praised the quality of the production as well as the visibility given to the role of children in migration trajectories<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president of the committee in charge of the awards, Laura Pinyol, pointed out that the shorts “exemplify diversity as a structural perspective that helps explain the world and the reality in which we live”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
