{"id":571,"date":"2015-06-12T15:13:19","date_gmt":"2015-06-12T22:13:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.quintanalab.org\/?p=571"},"modified":"2025-05-28T13:33:32","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T11:33:32","slug":"the-quintana-lab-goes-across-the-pond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/mitochondrial-neuropatology\/2015\/06\/12\/the-quintana-lab-goes-across-the-pond\/","title":{"rendered":"The Quintana lab goes across the pond&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been an eventful couple of months for the<strong> Quintana lab.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It all started when we received a great offer to locate the lab at the <a href=\"http:\/\/inc.uab.cat\/English\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Institute of Neurosciences<\/strong><\/a> at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uab.cat\/web\/universitat-autonoma-de-barcelona-1345467954774.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona<\/a>, in the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain and have our research funded by one of the prestigious ERC Starting Grants (NEUROMITO: more in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quintanalab.org\/#section-current-projects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">current projects<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2397  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/quintanalab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/617\/2015\/06\/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-05-28-a-las-13.32.35.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"166\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/mitochondrial-neuropatology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/617\/2015\/06\/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-05-28-a-las-13.32.35.png 448w, https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/mitochondrial-neuropatology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/617\/2015\/06\/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-05-28-a-las-13.32.35-295x300.png 295w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 166px) 100vw, 166px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After some careful thought, we have decided that this is a great opportunity for the lab to grow and to pursue our goal of finding a cure for mitochondrial disease. This funding has allowed most of the lab to move to Barcelona and will sustain and enhance our research capability in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Even though it is sad to leave Seattle and to say goodbye to our friends at <strong>Seattle Children&#8217;s Research Institute<\/strong> and the Northwest <strong>Mitochondrial Research Guild,<\/strong>\u00a0we believe that this will be a positive move and that undoubtedly we will continue collaborating towards our common goal. We will always be in debt for the great opportunity, training and mentoring provided by our experience and colleagues in Seattle and we will continue to grow in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>All \u00abtravelling\u00bb members: me (Albert), Eli, Alex, Irene and Kelsey are really looking forward to set our experiments up in Barcelona and we promise new and exciting updates soon!
