{"id":593,"date":"2015-07-13T15:52:20","date_gmt":"2015-07-13T22:52:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.quintanalab.org\/?p=593"},"modified":"2015-07-13T15:52:20","modified_gmt":"2015-07-13T22:52:20","slug":"a-night-at-the-circulo-ecuestre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/mitochondrial-neuropatology\/2015\/07\/13\/a-night-at-the-circulo-ecuestre\/","title":{"rendered":"A night at the C\u00edrculo Ecuestre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past Thursday\u00a0the <strong>Quintana lab<\/strong> was honored to share a wonderful night at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.circuloecuestre.es\/\" target=\"_blank\">C\u00edrculo Ecuestre <\/a>of Barcelona to <strong>raise awareness<\/strong> for mitochondrial disease research.<\/p>\n<p>The event was organized by <strong>Isabel Lav\u00edn<\/strong>\u00a0 (and her husband <strong>Valero<\/strong>), the parents of <strong>Menc\u00eda,<\/strong> a really wonderful 7 year-old girl, and gathered a large audience of friends, mito families and <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-596 size-medium alignright\" title=\"Eli got a prize... and met some celebrities :)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.quintanalab.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/cocktail-mito-229x300.jpg\" alt=\"cocktail mito\" width=\"229\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/mitochondrial-neuropatology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/617\/2015\/07\/cocktail-mito-229x300.jpg 229w, https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/mitochondrial-neuropatology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/617\/2015\/07\/cocktail-mito.jpg 731w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/>researchers to educate on mitochondrial disease and help find a treatment for Menc\u00eda and all mito kids.<\/p>\n<p>The night included several interesting and didactic and informative talks by local mitochondrial experts such as <strong>Dr. Julio Montoya<\/strong> and <strong>Dr. Jaume Campistol\u00a0<\/strong>as well as an outline of the potential treatments that <strong>gene<\/strong> and <strong>cellular therapy\u00a0<\/strong>may bring to mitochondrial research.<\/p>\n<p>One of the highlights of the event was the announcement of the establishment of a new <strong>Foundation for Mitochondrial Research<\/strong>, devoted to find a cure (mainly via gene and cellular therapy) for mitochondrial disease. It was impressive the amount of support from many national (and international) celebrities!<\/p>\n<p>Finally, we could enjoy an exquisite selection of\u00a0hors d&#8217;oeuvres and drinks while participating in a charity raffle.
