Conversations to understand<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To comprehend how non-binary people<\/a> and lesbian<\/a>, bisexual<\/a>, pansexual <\/a>and queer <\/a>women feel when walking and cycling through Barcelona, we have combined interviews with the use of Relief Maps.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Participants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In July 2023 we interviewed 22 people who lived in Barcelona. Half of them were raised in Catalonia and the rest, in other territories in Europe, North and South America. In terms of gender, interviewees identified themselves as non binary<\/a> and as cisgender<\/a>, transgender<\/a> and intersexual <\/a>women. Regarding sexuality, they sef-identified as lesbians<\/a>, bisexuals<\/a>, pansexuals<\/a>and queer<\/a>. Participants’ ages range between 20 and 50 years, and two interviewees were mothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Participants shared their experiences walking and cycling, based on the following questions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Which trips do you undertake?<\/strong><\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. How do you feel in each trip?<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. What do you like or dislike of each trip?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Do you think you would feel the same if you were a man? Or if you were white?<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Do you think you would feel the same if you were holding hands with your partner during this trip?<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. What would have to change for you to feel better?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Relief Map<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    After the interview, we invited participants to draw a Relief Map<\/a>. Relief Maps are a tool for analyzing social inequalities from an interseccional <\/a>perspective. This map combines three axes: the social <\/strong>axis (associated with identities such as gender<\/a>, sexuality <\/a>or etnicity), the geographical<\/strong> axis (based on the routes) and the psychological<\/strong> aixs (related to emotions). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
