Hi ha dues isoformes principals, COX-1 i COX-2, amb diferents rols i patrons d&#8217;expressi\u00f3 als teixits. La COX-1 s&#8217;expressa \u00e0mpliament i mant\u00e9 l&#8217;home\u00f2stasi, mentre que la COX-2 est\u00e0 restringida a regions espec\u00edfiques i \u00e9s indu\u00efble, especialment en teixits inflamats i c\u00e8l\u00b7lules canceroses. La sobreexpressi\u00f3 de COX-2 s&#8217;associa amb el desenvolupament de c\u00e0ncer en diversos tipus de tumors. Les difer\u00e8ncies entre els espectres monom\u00e8rics i dim\u00e8rics revelen coneixements moleculars del comportament de la prote\u00efna a les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules amb COX-2 sobreexpressada.
