He has worked extensively with Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) operating in air and in electrochemical environments (ESTM), as well as with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). His early research contributed to pioneering studies on the local nano-anodization of silicon surfaces. With more than 30 years of academic experience, he has participated in over 30 national and European research projects, contributed to more than 190 conferences, published over 90 journal papers, and coauthored five patents. His current research focuses on the integration of mechanical M/NEMS and electromagnetic structures to develop a new device concept named MEMSTENNA, aimed at enabling novel electromagnetic-to-mechanical direct transduction strategies and applications.

Marcel Placidi received the M.S. degree in electronics from the Université de Montpellier 2, France, in 2006, and the Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain, in 2010.
