The text analyses the figure of the freedman Lucius Licinius Secundus, dependent on the Roman consul Lucius Licinius Sura, as well as the close relations he maintained with other freedmen and slaves of the Ager Barcinonensis. His role, like that of most of these freedmen, can be linked to the production of Layetan wine and the large profits it brought to the landowners in the area. The article defines the network of contacts that the freedman built up around him, which serves to document the profound social and economic transformations experienced by the Roman Empire during the decisive second century AD through the study of a particular case such as that of Roman Layetania.
