From 8 to 10 June 2026, the international colloquium Circulating Perspectives of the Past. Epigraphic Material in Manuscripts (15th–17th Centuries) was held at the Sapienza Università di Roma and the Museo Nazionale Romano, Palazzo Massimo. The event was organized in memoriam of Marco Buonocore (1954–2022), the distinguished Vatican scriptor Latinus and epigrapher, who was also a member of our research project.
The colloquium was co-organized by Xavier Espluga (Universitat de Barcelona), PI of the project PID2023-150246NA-C21, coordinated with ours, together with Marietta Horster (JGU Mainz / CIL-BBAW Berlin), Maria Letizia Caldelli, and Silvia Orlandi (Sapienza Università di Roma). The event brought together specialists from across Europe and beyond to examine the manuscript transmission and circulation of epigraphic material from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century.
Two members of our research project delivered papers at the colloquium. William Stenhouse (Yeshiva University, New York) presented a paper entitled «Journaux de voyage as epigraphic manuscripts: Examples from the late Renaissance»; and Gerard González Germain (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) presented «MS Spencer 54 and the Circulation of Epigraphic Sylloges in Early 16th-Century Bologna».
