We are delighted to announce the publication of Antiquity and its Afterlife. Studies in Honour of Joan Carbonell Manils (Edizioni dell’Orso, 2026), edited by Gerard González Germain and Javier Moralejo Ordax, in the series Studi e testi di epigrafia (vol. 5).
The volume pays tribute to Joan Carbonell Manils on the occasion of his seventieth birthday and his retirement from teaching at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, after nearly four decades of academic service. Its thirteen contributions, spanning Roman antiquity, medieval toponymy, Renaissance epigraphy, and antiquarian humanism, reflect the breadth of Carbonell’s research interests — and, fittingly, the title chosen for the book: Antiquity and its Afterlife.
The book is a collaboration between our project and that of prof. Moralejo Ordax, also a former pupil of Carbonrell’s. Five members of our project contributed chapters: Gerard González Germain («An Anonymous Scribe in Angelo Colocci’s Circle and the Earliest Transcription of CIL IX 3429»), Marc Mayer i Olivé («La circulación de los Epigrammata antiquae Urbis en Portugal y entre los humanistas portugueses»), Ginette Vagenheim («Pirro Ligorio illustratore delle Fabulae centum di Gabriele Faerno (1563)»), Sandra Cano Aguilera («Adiciones de autor a los Diálogos de medallas de Antonio Agustín en manos de Schottus, Torrentius y Winghius»), and William Stenhouse («Trajan’s Column in a forgotten set of prints by Giovanni Battista Fontana»).
